Modern Basics

Lace top: Aritzia, Jeans: Gap, Flats: JCrew, Bag: Gap, Bracelets: Rubaiyat, Sunglasses: Joe Fresh

Sometimes you just can’t go wrong with a t-shirt and jeans. Even if the shirt happens to be a little lacy and the jeans aged with years of wear.

I tend to opt for simple when it comes to my personal style. I prefer to add touches of colour or interest through accessories and twists on everyday basics., like this lace blouse from Aritzia. It’s already turning out to be a fave piece as it very simple but not boring. Details, like the scalloped hem, add texture to a classic look. Even better (and considering where it’s from, somewhat amazing), it’s affordable.

Summer Style

Dress: JCrew, Necklace: Pyrrha, Sandals: Aldo (on sale now!), Purse: Plum, Bracelets: from Rubaiyat and my travels

After my first rainy winter in Vancouver, I was beginning to wonder if good weather here was a myth created by cranky sun-deprived Vancouverites to mess with other Canadians. The past week has proved that theory wrong and the sun has been out in full force!

I am all over the maxi dress for summer. Grab a great pair of sandals and a few accessories (statement necklace or a stack of bangles) and voila, you are instantly pulled together—it makes getting ready in 10 minutes an actual possibility. My recommendation when looking for a maxi dress? Choose one with a defined waistband otherwise you run the risk of people asking when you are due.

The first time I wore this dress T asked if I was going to a ball. First of all, do people still go to balls? And if so, why haven’t I been taken to one? Clearly I have the proper attire I just need to drum up some glass slippers.

Stripes: The New Neutral

How about I just rename this blog “Stripes”—seriously I just realized how often I wear them. Some people can’t live without good wine, chocolate or amazing meals,  but me? I prefer stripes and shoes. Whatever we all have our vices.

Jacket: Zara (bought in Panama), Shirt: Anthropologie, Cardigan: Gap, Cropped Pants: Gap, Shoes: J.Crew, Necklace: Antique Chinese Turquoise at Rubaiyat, Lucite Ring: Alexis Bittar at Rubaiyat

Psssst Happy Spring!

Lazy Weekend Wear

So, if you happen to follow me on Instagram you’ve probably already met this little character. She’s a terrier mix, who’s super cute, way too smart and goes by the name Lulo (which means “little orange”—a fave fruit discovered while we were in Colombia).

Pants: JCrew, Shirt: Anthropologie, Jacket: Gap circa 2000, Hoodie: Joe Fresh, Flats: JCrew, Necklace: Paper plane by Broken English from Walrus,  Clutch: Plum, Nails: Essie’s Turquoise and Caicos

I wish I’d bought these pants in every colour. I bought them on sale at JCrew last summer and they are the perfect pant for oh say, walking the dog on a lazy Saturday.

Odds & Ends: Martinis, Puppies & J.Crew in Vancouver

I actually got reprimanded for not blogging from a coworker yesterday. This week was pretty mental but I figured I’d wrap up the week with some random picks and get back to regularly scheduled blogging next week.

1) Two weeks ago I was living it up in Victoria on a foodie tour. On this trip, I was introduced to the Empress 1908, a tea-infused martini, at the Bengal Lounge in the Fairmont Hotel. It’s the best martini I have had hands down (and yes, it comes with a mini scone!). Read more about my foodie adventures here.

2) We just found out our apartment is pet-friendly! We are now looking for a one of these (a Bo-Dach, a cross between a Boston Terrier and Dachshund). Know of any? Send ‘em my way!

3) I decided that I will run the BMO half in May and will train for a full in the fall of this year. Pretty sure I deserve a new running top.

4) Vancouver peeps! J.Crew is opening up on Robson…if Jenna Lyons rolls into town you know where I’ll be.

5) On that note J.Crew’s spring collection is chock full of clothes I want to see hanging in my closet. I think this dress (which went on sale today!) is going to be a summer staple. What are you adding to your closet for spring?
