Summer Style

Dress: JCrew, Necklace: Pyrrha, Sandals: Aldo (on sale now!), Purse: Plum, Bracelets: from Rubaiyat and my travels

After my first rainy winter in Vancouver, I was beginning to wonder if good weather here was a myth created by cranky sun-deprived Vancouverites to mess with other Canadians. The past week has proved that theory wrong and the sun has been out in full force!

I am all over the maxi dress for summer. Grab a great pair of sandals and a few accessories (statement necklace or a stack of bangles) and voila, you are instantly pulled together—it makes getting ready in 10 minutes an actual possibility. My recommendation when looking for a maxi dress? Choose one with a defined waistband otherwise you run the risk of people asking when you are due.

The first time I wore this dress T asked if I was going to a ball. First of all, do people still go to balls? And if so, why haven’t I been taken to one? Clearly I have the proper attire I just need to drum up some glass slippers.

Stripes: The New Neutral

How about I just rename this blog “Stripes”—seriously I just realized how often I wear them. Some people can’t live without good wine, chocolate or amazing meals,  but me? I prefer stripes and shoes. Whatever we all have our vices.

Jacket: Zara (bought in Panama), Shirt: Anthropologie, Cardigan: Gap, Cropped Pants: Gap, Shoes: J.Crew, Necklace: Antique Chinese Turquoise at Rubaiyat, Lucite Ring: Alexis Bittar at Rubaiyat

Psssst Happy Spring!

Lazy Weekend Wear

So, if you happen to follow me on Instagram you’ve probably already met this little character. She’s a terrier mix, who’s super cute, way too smart and goes by the name Lulo (which means “little orange”—a fave fruit discovered while we were in Colombia).

Pants: JCrew, Shirt: Anthropologie, Jacket: Gap circa 2000, Hoodie: Joe Fresh, Flats: JCrew, Necklace: Paper plane by Broken English from Walrus,  Clutch: Plum, Nails: Essie’s Turquoise and Caicos

I wish I’d bought these pants in every colour. I bought them on sale at JCrew last summer and they are the perfect pant for oh say, walking the dog on a lazy Saturday.

What to Pack: Coachella 2012

I’m not going to lie for someone who has travelled a lot I am absolutely horrible at packing light. Tell me to pack for two years and I am good to go, tell me to pack for five days and suddenly I decide that seven pairs of shoes is totally acceptable. What can I say? I’m a much better long-term traveller.

One of my travel goals is to be able to pack everything I need for a five-day trip in carryon and still be stylish and appropriately dressed for any occasion. I know, it’s a really serious goal. (If you are a really awful packer, Kelly of Travellious found an amazing app that makes packing a snap!)

Coachella is a mere week and half away (we’re headed to the second week) and I cannot wait! I’m determined to pack light and am looking at the lightest but most versatile clothes that I can cram into a carryon. Maxi dresses are my new fave (I know I am late on that trend) so I chose one simple dress and built around it. I’m opting for basics and then adding in some fun with bright (and inexpensive, thank you H&M) jewellery and accessories.

What to pack for Coachella

Everyone is telling me to pack boots but given that I plan to rock a carryon I suspect my trusty Converse will be the shoes I end up wearing the whole time. Don’t worry, I’ve heard the horror stories of wearing sandals to any music fest (thanks to Coachella expert Kelsey Dundon of The Anthology) so my sandals will be worn outside the venue.

What is your must-have for a music festival?

Nailed it

Is it just me or is nail polish and nail art making some sort of resurgence? I feel like everywhere I turn there are crackle polishes, matte colours, press-on patterns or some other new-fangled way to dress up your digits. You can even get polish shades based on the Hunger Games!

Since it has been very grey in Vancouver lately (big surprise there) I am finding myself craving colour. Since it’s not quite shorts and sandals season,  I’m opting for some fun nail looks to brighten up my days:

Bright On
Though I know this spring pastels are back you’ll never catch me in them —painting my nails to look like Easter eggs isn’t really my thing.  Right now there are some really fun shades to choose from. Canary from Joe Fresh is a nice yellow if your up for sunny nails, Frutti Petutie (my fave) by Sally Hansen walks the line between vibrant and neon while O.P.I’s Paisley Attention to Me is luring me into tangerine territory.

Perfectly Painted
Skip the process of painting all together with these awesome nail patches. You literally stick them on your nails and file them down (or fold them under) and voila! Your nails are ready (and dry) in a jiffy.

DIY
If you have some time to kill and are patient (very patient), the always stylish Keiko Lynn has quite created a cool moon manicure tutorial. I haven’t had time to try it but the results are quite pretty and unexpected.

What nail colours are you sporting this year?
